The Moon Entertainment Launches ‘Sangam Global K-Culture Hub’ Initiative
The Moon Entertainment of the LM Project announced on February 14 that it will launch the ‘Sangam Global K-Culture Hub’ initiative, centered around the Mapo Oil Reserve Base in Seongsan-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul.
Seoul aims to redefine Sangam as a gateway to the world, transforming it into a sustainable, vibrant global city, with the vision of ‘Eco City Sangam,’ ‘Fun City Sangam,’ and ‘Creative City Sangam’ under its [Sangam Reinvention Project]. As part of this vision, the Mapo Oil Reserve Base, World Cup Stadium, and Peace Park will be developed into a K-Culture Hub. Among these, the Mapo Oil Reserve Base will serve as the core of ‘Fun City Sangam’, evolving into an immersive interactive leisure space for cultural performances and media content exhibitions. To ensure innovation, Seoul has opted for a private sector-led development model, with The Moon Entertainment securing the project contract. The Moon Entertainment has chosen the operational concept 'Discover Iconic K-Culture, Connect to World', aiming to allow visitors to newly discover the symbolic and unique aspects of K-Culture. This project is designed to establish K-Culture not just as a passing trend but as a new global cultural icon, transforming Seoul into a cultural platform that connects with the world.
Under this concept, the existing tank facilities at the Mapo Oil Reserve Base will be themed as 'Art Tank, Music Tank, VR Tank, Pop-up Tank, and K-Culture Tank.' These spaces will be repurposed into an interactive cultural complex featuring media art exhibitions by renowned domestic and international artists, including Gaudí, a VR-based immersive K-POP theme park, a K-POP performance stage showcasing famous idols, indie bands, and new artists, and collaborative projects with globally recognized brands. The former oil storage tanks will be creatively transformed into hubs filled with K-Culture, evolving into a global cultural icon that connects people worldwide, both now and in the future. The Moon Entertainment will operate this project for the next 10 years, expecting over 700,000 annual visitors and generating approximately KRW 5 billion(around $3.4 million USD) in annual revenue.
